Hand and Wrist Therapy at Penrith Physiotherapy

Hand and Wrist Therapy

Penrith Physiotherapy Sports Centre offers specialised hand, wrist and finger therapy delivered by a therapist with two decades of experience. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, healing a fracture, or rebuilding strength and movement after an injury, you’ll get focused, evidence-based care in a calm, comfortable setting.

Hands are intricate, and small problems can have a big impact on daily life and work. Hand therapy is a dedicated area of physiotherapy focused on the hand, wrist and forearm — restoring movement, strength and function after injury or surgery.

What We Treat

  • Post-Surgical Rehabilitation — recovery following hand and wrist surgery
  • Fracture Recovery — wrist, hand and finger fractures
  • Tendon Injuries — flexor and extensor tendon repairs
  • Nerve Conditions — carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome
  • Arthritis Management — rheumatoid and osteoarthritis of the hand
  • Trigger Finger — conservative and post-surgical care
  • Dupuytren’s Contracture — management and rehabilitation
  • Sprains, Strains & Overuse — including repetitive strain from work

Treatment Approaches

  • Splinting & Orthotic Fabrication — custom splints to protect, rest or support
  • Range of Motion Restoration — getting stiff joints and tendons moving again
  • Strengthening Programs — progressive, graded loading
  • Scar Management — softening and desensitising surgical and injury scars
  • Desensitisation Techniques — for hypersensitivity after injury or surgery
  • Work Hardening & Ergonomics — preparing you for a confident return to work

What to Expect

Your first appointment is a longer session so there’s time to hear your history, examine properly and start treatment. From there you’ll have a clear plan, something to work on at home, and regular re-checks so we can track progress and adjust as you improve. We explain everything in plain language and focus on getting you back to using your hands with confidence.

Treatment Philosophy

This service is built around making patients feel relaxed, well cared for and informed. Hand and wrist recovery is detailed work — so the approach is gentle, thorough and unhurried, with education and self-management at the centre of every program.

Honest answers

Common questions.

How long is a session?

A typical session runs 45-60 minutes. First visits include a longer assessment so we can hear your story, examine properly, and actually treat.

Do I need a referral?

Not for private patients — walk in, book online, whatever. Medicare EPC and WorkCover do need GP paperwork, but we'll help with that.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes that let us access the area we need to examine. Shorts if it's a leg thing, a singlet if it's shoulders. If in doubt, bring options.

How many sessions will I need?

Honest answer: depends. We'll give you a realistic estimate after your first assessment and re-check progress regularly. No packages sold up-front.
